The municipality of Tavira belongs to the district of Faro, in the Algarve region, with an area of 607 km2 and 24.995 inhabitants (in 2001). It’s divided into 9 freguesias (parishes). The municipality of Tavira works on safety issues related to forest fire prevention, developing forest cleaning actions, as well as supplying means of firefighting, like the installation of water points.
