The municipality of Castro belongs to the district of Faro, in the Algarve region, with a population of 6.747 in 2011. It occupies an area of 300 km2, a 6% of Algarve region’s area. Administratively, it is divided into 4 freguesias (parishes). The municipality wants to participate in a joint strategy on prevention and fire-fighting, one of the great challenges in the Iberian Peninsula.
