16.06.2020. The Finnova Foundation, as a beneficiary of the Iberian Centre for Research and the Fight against Forest Fires (CILIFO) organized a webinar on Monday, 15 June 2020 (from 10:00h to 12:00h CEST) on the Accelerathon – CILIFO in forest fire prevention and extinction and habitat recovery in a burned area.
The webinar of the Accelerathon – CILIFO, an open innovation programme organised by the Startup Europe Accelerator of the Finnova Foundation, was aimed at civil society, entrepreneurs, technological institutes, companies and universities.
The highest number of participants in Zoom was 73 at a time. The event began (first intervention by Juan Sánchez – Junta de Andalucía) with 59 participants and closed with 60 participants. However, the total number of people registered at Zoom for the event was 98 (but not all connected at the same time). In addition, it should be noted that the event was broadcast on the Facebook page of @CILIFO.UE and has 248 views. However, it is estimated that a total of 346 people accessed the webinar (98 registered by Zoom, plus the 248 reproductions by Facebook).
Objective of the webinar: to inform about the CILIFO project and the progress of the project, as well as the work developed by each beneficiary; to promote networking and open innovation through the «Firefighting Open Innovation Lab – CILIFO» incubator. The project’s accelerator makes it possible to locate innovative solutions to common challenges that can attract Community funds through open calls, such as the LIFE environment programme.
Guests at the webinar: among the speakers who took part in the webinar were beneficiaries of the CILIFO project; companies and external projects; and expert staff in the Accelerathon methodology of the Finnova Foundation (see agenda).
One of the objectives of this online event was to publicize the work carried out on forest fires by the beneficiaries of the project themselves. In this sense, representatives of the following members of the partnership took part:

ACCELERATHON-CILIFO
Accelerathon-CILIFO challenges: to meet the challenge 13 and 15 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDAs) to innovate urgent action to combat climate change and its effects. As well as protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation and halting the loss of biodiversity.
The challenges ahead:
- Prevention of forest fires.
- Extinguishing forest fires.
- Habitat restoration after forest fires
These challenges aim to identify innovative solutions, as well as to attract companies, public or private entities, start-ups or entrepreneurs who define their environmental challenges in terms of forest fire prevention and recovery.
The aim of this initiative is to promote innovative challenges and be able to apply them to the real world of forest fire prevention, extinction and recovery through European funding. Furthermore, thanks to this tool, the CILIFO project and the progress of the project developed by the beneficiaries in the territory of the cross-border region of Alentejo-Algarve-Andalusia are given visibility.
Who is the Accelerathon-CILIFO aimed at? Accelerathon is an open innovation competition in which entrepreneurs, universities, technological institutes, business associations, town halls, industrial estates, SMEs and entities in general (public and private) from all over the world can participate, provided that they are committed to the above-mentioned challenges.
It is a team competition with training, since the competition of the different teams is carried out with e-learning tools and with the LIFE methodology. We work together to obtain optimal solutions. Participating users can take a training course on EU funding.
Duration and prizes: the Accelerathon-CILIFO programme will last approximately two weeks (from 17 June, when registration closes, to 26 June, when the final is scheduled). As a prize, a European Acceleration ticket will be awarded to access EU funds, to go international or to co-draft a European project on the CILIFO theme.
